Some research estimates that as much as 80% of US adults suffer from some form of periodontal (gum) disease, and the advanced form, periodontitis, is the leading cause of tooth loss in the US. Gum disease occurs as a result of plaque irritating gums. The mild form of periodontal disease is called gingivitis, and can typically be treated with more frequent teeth cleanings. Left untreated, the irritated gum tissue forms sores and pockets between the teeth and gums. At this point, treatment becomes much more difficult. LANAP treatment is an innovative periodontal therapy that significantly reduces healing time, discomfort, and risk for recurrence.

According to recent studies conducted in the US anywhere between 50 and 80% of adults (30+) suffer from periodontal (gum) disease. If that weren’t enough to encourage patients to care for their gums, periodontal disease has also been linked to numerous systemic diseases and chronic illnesses. Maintaining great at-home hygiene and visiting your dentist twice a year for checkups and cleanings is essential to preventing periodontal disease, but if these preventive measures are not enough, Dr. James Rynar of Metropolitan Periodontics & Implantology Associates can help you restore your oral health with surgical, non-surgical, and LANAP periodontal therapy options.
